The Friends of the Old State Capital and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency take local residents and visitors to our community back in time each fall with their Cemetery Walk. It's an opportunity to learn in an entertaining way about some of the people who helped develop both Vandalia and the State of Illinois in their formative years.

In this "Theatrical Epitaphs" performance, local residents step into the roles of the early settlers of our town and state.

The Cemetery Walk is held in the Old State Burial Grounds, in conjunction with a reception at the Vandalia Statehouse two blocks away. While at the reception, visitors may take tours of the Statehouse, which was the Illinois capital from 1836-1839.
